The quality of our goose down is measured by its fill power , density, cling and cleanliness. Our white down from mature Canadian geese is clearly superior.
Fill power is the number of cubic inches one ounce of down will fill under controlled laboratory conditions. A more mature down with larger clusters fills more space for the same weight as lesser quality down. The result: Pluma Down products are much lighter yet also much loftier than products with immature down. Our fill-power range of 550 to 700 is among the highest in the bedding industry.
Density describes how compact the fibers of down are at its center. The denser the down, the better it traps air and insulates. High density is found only in very mature down like ours.
Cling is another benefit of very mature goose down. As the down matures tiny hooks develop, causing down clusters to cling together and forming a more even layer of insulation. It is costly to maintain birds to this level of maturity, but you'll appreciate the difference it makes in Pluma Down bedding.
Cleanliness is crucial in down products because bacteria, molds, mildew and fungus in the clusters can set off allergies. (The down itself does not cause allergies.) In our thorough Pluma-Pure® process, the down is carefully washed, rinsed and dried using machinery developed especially for this purification.
All down is cleaned to some degree. What makes Pluma Down so appealing is that once it goes through the Pluma-Pure® wash, it stays pure
